It happened Sunday, Dec. 29 at approximately 10:50 p.m. in Lindenhurst.

A 34-year-old man was riding a bicycle westbound in the eastbound lane of Montauk Highway, near the intersection of Deauville Parkway, when he collided head-on with an eastbound 2003 Hyundai Sonata, Suffolk County Police said.

The man, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip in critical condition. An adult male passenger in the Hyundai was transported to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver of the Hyundai, Jason Langdon, 22, of Lindenhurst, was not injured. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
